Joanna made a guest appearance at "The Ultimate Fashion Show" - an event to benefit the Aids Foundation of The Bahamas. The sold out event was held at the British Colonial Hilton hotel and showcased various forms of the Arts including musicians, poets and models. The aim of the fashion show was to educate attendees on HIV/AIDS and bring more awareness to this pandemic. Joanna modeled in the "We're stars" scene which showcased Bahamian beauty queens wearing specially designed T-shirt bearing AIDS awareness messages.

Joanna joined the Bristol Wines and Spirits staff and Red Cross volunteers in their efforts to bring relief to earthquake ravaged Haiti. She attended a concert/fundraiser at Bristol Wines and Spirits headquarters on Gladstone Road where she helped Red Cross volunteers prepare and package goods for Haiti.

She's done it again.... Miss Bahamas World Joanna Brown has made yet another list compiled by beauty pageant experts. According to the website Global Beauties, she has one of the 50 most beautiful faces of 2009! The finalists were chosen among the world's most prestigious pageants. Out of thousands of women who competed nationally and internationally in 2009, only 50 are in the running to become GlobalBeauties.com 2009 Face of the Year, and our Joanna is one of them! During the following two weeks, a panel of over 30 judges will decide on who advances to the Top 25, Top 15, Top 10, Top 5 and then the winner. Visitors to the website will also have the opportunity to participate in an online poll.

The accolades continue to pour in for Miss Bahamas World 2009.... Joanna was named as the contestant with the best fashion sense by popular blogger Hector Joaquin in his first annual HJ Blog Crown Awards! The Islands of the Bahamas also got the nod for best venue! Congratulations to Joanna and the Islands of The Bahamas for this notable nod of approval.

Joanna is named one of the top 20 sexiest women alive by Global Beauties! The popular pageant portal writes: About 440 women competed in all five 'Grand Slam' pageants during 2009. From all those beauties, only the lucky 20 were considered to take part in GB's contest, "The Sexiest Woman Alive". After weeks of competition, the spectacular 59th Miss World finale was held at the Gallagher Convention Center in Johannesburg. Capturing the title was Miss Gibraltar Kaiane Aldorino, triumphing out of 112 beautiful and talented young women. As the final duty in her reign, Miss World 2008 Ksenia Sukhinova placed the bejeweled crown on the head of her successor. As she sat on her throne, the new Miss World 2009 was flanked by first runner-up Mexico and second runner-up South Africa. The glittering two-hour spectacular showcased the beauty and talent of 112 of the World's most incredible young women, who spent one month enjoying the wonders of South Africa. Although she did not advance to the Top 16, Joanna performed exceptionally well in the pageant, placing fourth in the Beauty with a Purpose competition; landing in the Talent Competition finals; and becoming a semifinalist in the Sportswoman competition. The Miss Bahamas Organization congratulates Joanna for her stellar performance and thanks all those who contributed to her success, most notably her coach/styling team of Bobby and Sally Ackbarali.

It's down to the wire... Joanna and her fellow contestants participated in a full dress rehearsal on the eve of the 2009 Miss World final. National directors, family members and supporters who are in South Africa for the pageant got a sneak peak of the spectacular show which is set for Saturday in the Gallagher Convention Center, Johannesburg. After rehearsals, the contestants had dinner before spending a few hours with family and friends.

The Miss World contestants spent the day in rehearsals for the big finale on Saturday. They spent the evening relaxing with family, friends and national directors before preparing for the interview round of the competition which begins tomorrow.

It was an evening of family, friends and fun for the Miss World contestants who attended the annual Miss World family dinner Monday evening. There were three Miss Worlds in attendance - the reigning Miss World Ksenia Sukhinova of Russia, Miss World 2007 Zilin Zhang of China, and Miss World 1998 Linor Abargil of Israel who sang a touching song that she wrote. All of the contestants who have celebrated birthdays while at Miss World were also given a special treat - a birthday cake along with the traditional Happy Birthday song sung by all in attendance. The ladies were allowed to let their hair down as they danced to popular hit songs and enjoyed a delicious Christmas dinner.

Contestants visited Soccer City Stadium, where the FIFA World Cup Final will be held in 2010 International media gathered this morning to witness the Miss World 2009 contestants visit the newly refurbished Soccer City stadium in Johannesburg. The 32 ladies whose countries will be represented at next year's FIFA World Cup posed for photographs on the pitch wearing replica soccer shirts from their home nation. All the other contestants wore specially designed gold shorts and t-shirts celebrating the FIFA World Cup and Johannesburg, the city of gold.

Contestants began the seven day countdown to the Miss World finale at the Joburg zoo. The zoo was their first stop after arriving back in Joburg. The ladies threw a party for 300 local children from day care centres and orphanages. Both the contestants and children had a great time as they played games, sang songs and took pictures together. After lunch they said goodbye and the Miss World finalists signed autographs for their new friends. With only seven days to go to the Miss World 2009 final, excitement is building. Hundreds of International media have begun arriving in Johannesburg in anticipation of next Saturday's grand final.

35 of the Miss World contestants - wearing their AIDS ribbons - were met by the organizers of the Soweto Cycle Tour who helped them cycle around Thokoza Park in Soweto. During the cycle tour the girls explored the peaceful park, posed for pictures and then they were given a tour of the historical Regina Mundi Church. Following that, the 35 contestants were bused away to yet another South African historical site, Walter Sisulu Museum in Kliptown, Soweto. The guided tour of the museum took the girls through several years of the apartheid system in South Africa, exposing them to the people who fought the injustices of that system. This was then followed by a tour of the Freedom Charter monument, giving the ladies a brief lesson on the articles of the South African Freedom Charter. The tour culminated at the Nelson Mandela Museum, where the ladies were taken on a guided tour of the Mandela House.

The contestants visited beautiful Sun City, South Africa where a number of activities were held, including a gala dinner with some of the world's best golf players who are competing in the Nedbank Golf challenge. Joanna was among the 13 contestants selected to attend the dinner, and she had the privilege of escorting champion golfer Henrick Stenson who was last year's champion into the room.

Legend Safari Resort hosted this year's Miss World contestants for two days, giving them a taste of living in the heart of the African bush. The 22,000 hectare game reserve which is home to the 'Big Five' is situated in the Waterberg Biosphere and boasts five full eco-systems. As the girls arrived they were greeted by locals playing African drums and woodwind instruments before heading out on a safari tour. In the evening the young ladies learned how to play the African drums at an interactive workshop with The African Drum Rhythm Band. While on safari, the girls came face to face with Africa's exotic, wild animals a once in a lifetime opportunity for many of them. The fourth of five fast track events was held in Johannesburg's Turbine Hall. Emerging victorious in the Miss World Top Model competition was Miss Mexico Perla Beltran Acosta. The competition showcased seven of South Africa's leading designers, using the Miss World contestants as models. The designers who showcased their work - Thula Sindi; Kluk CGdT; JJ Schoeman; Marc & Michael; Haroun Hansrot; RJKay and Diamond Face Couture - each provided magical golden dresses for the contestants. Second in Miss World Fashion was Miss Vietnam, Tran Thi Huong Giang with Miss Martinique Ingrid Litter in third spot. Miss Mexico now joins Miss Japan Eruza Sasaki (Miss World Sportswoman), Miss Canada Yanbing Ma and Miss Sierra Leone Mariatu Kargbo (joint Miss World Talent Show winners) and Miss Gibraltar Kaiane Aldorino (Miss World Beach Beauty) in the final rounds of the Miss World competition. Only one of the remaining 107 contestants still has the chance to be fast-tracked by taking the title of Miss World Beauty with a Purpose (to be announced at the Miss World final on Saturday, December 12 at Gallagher Convention Centre). Prior to the Top Model competition, the contestants modeled their evening gowns to determine the winner of the World Designer award. Joanna wore a beautiful Junkanoo inspired gown by Bobby Ackbarali, featuring more than 13,000 faceted glass stones and Swarovski crystals of varied sizes and shapes in rich jewel tones of emerald, turquoise, sapphire, royal purple, fuschia, amber and orange. Sierra Leone's designer Dany Tabet took the award for an amazing crystal emblazed design with ornate patterning.

The much anticipated Beach Beauty competition was held, and when it was all said and done Miss Gibraltar, Kaiane Aldorino, was in a celebratory mood after being named Miss World Beach Beauty at the Valley of the Pools at Zimbali Estate in Kwazulu Natal. This 23-year-old beauty made history by becoming the first Gibraltarian ever to reach the top round of the Miss World contest. The Beach Beauty contest, held in association with Dax Martin swimwear, is one of five individual fast track events held before the final of the Miss World on December 12 at Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand with the winners of each of the individual contests automatically going into the semi-finals. Second in the Miss World Beach Beauty was Miss Panama, Nadege Herrera Vasquez with Miss Scotland, Katharine Brown in third spot. Miss Gibraltar now joins Miss Japan Eruza Sasaki (Miss World Sportswoman) and Miss Canada Yanbing Ma and Miss Sierra Leone Mariatu Kargbo (joint Miss World Talent Show winners) in the final rounds of the Miss World competition. The remaining 108 contestants still have a chance to be fast-tracked if they win one of the remaining two events - Miss World Top Model on Saturday, November 28 at the Turbine Hall in Johannesburg, and Miss World Beauty with a Purpose, to be announced at the Miss World finale.

The Miss World contestants visited the Moses Mabida stadium and Inanda Secondary School as part of their tour of Durban in the build up to the Miss World Beach Beauty Final. Following a special assembly, the pupils threw a party for the Miss World contestants as their school year comes to an end.

It was a memorable birthday celebration for Joanna as an impromptu party was celebrated in her honor. Her 18th B-day began with an 8 hour bus ride from Johannesburg to Durban. Upon arrival, she was serenaded by her porter and discovered that a birthday cake, candle and a card had been placed in her room! Later that evening, dinner turned out to be a birthday party where Joanna shared the cake with everyone and allowed Miss Barbados - who also recently celebrated a birthday - to cut half of the cake. It was a beautiful night with lots of fun.

The much anticipated Miss World Talent Fast Track competition was held today. Joanna was among the twenty contestants who advanced to the talent finals after a series of auditions. For her talent, Joanna played Andrea Bocelli's Time To Say Goodbye on the Steel pan, which proved to be very popular with both the judges and those in the audience. She looked breathtaking as she played the classic piece of music wearing an elegant ball gown and long gloves. Joanna did not advance to the top five of this fast track, however kudos go out to her for reaching so far in the competition. There was a tie for first between Misses Canada and Sierra Leone who will both now automatically advance to the semifinals of the Miss World competition. Congratulations Joanna for a job well done! President Jacob Zuma met the 112 Miss World contestants today at the Presidential Guest House in Pretoria to wish them well in their preparations for the Miss World Final at Gallagher Estate, Johannesburg on 12 December 2009. Addressing the contestants, ahead of meeting each one of them individually, President Zuma remarked that despite the gloomy weather he extended a warm welcome and pointed out the valuable role they have to play: "The Miss World Contest brings nations of the world together and is an important platform for promoting unity and togetherness amongst all of us. There are many challenges facing the world such as poverty, disease and conflicts. Our Miss World contestants and national queens can play an important role in raising awareness about these ills and promote action for peace, love, togetherness and prosperity. This contest also promotes economic activity, especially tourism, amongst world nations and encourages people to people contact and cooperation." For the contestants the Presidential meeting was the highlight of their South African trip to date and a once in a lifetime opportunity. During her one-on-one interaction with the President, Joanna thanked him for hosting the contestants, saying she was honored to meet him. She also brought love and greetings from the people of the Bahamas. The exchange caught the media's attention and was featured during a news story on SABC3 TV. Tomorrow the Miss World Group will visit Soweto before flying off to Kwa Zulu Natal for three days where the Miss Beach Beauty final will be held. This afternoon the Miss World contestants battled it out to win the coveted title of Miss World Sportswoman. The Nelson Mandela Bay stadium, Port Elizabeth, FIFA World Cup 2010 venue, played host to the Miss World Sports Event. The contestants were split into four groups and 10 from each group were selected during tryouts on Tuesday. Joanna was among the 40 finalists! Today, those 40 contestants competed in a gladiator course, an adventure zone, and a relay race. The points earned from these events accumulated towards their final points for the competition, which narrowed the field to twelve. Emerging as the Top 12 was: Miss Jamaica, Miss Hungary, Miss India, Miss Japan, Miss Latvia, Miss Puerto Rico, Miss Sierra Leone, Miss Gibraltar, Miss Trinidad and Tobago, Miss Venezuela, Miss Australia and Miss Uruguay. Advancing to the final round were India, Hungary, Japan, Jamaica, Latvia and Venezuela. The scores from another round of obstacle course and sprints were combined to determine the Top three. A close second place went to Jamaica, with Hungary third. Capturing the title of Miss World Sportswoman 2009 was Miss Japan who was victorious after a series of talented sporting performances. Japan has now been fast-tracked into the Miss World Final. She becomes the first Japanese semifinalist at Miss World in 28 years! Well done to all the girls, and congratulations to Miss Japan!

The Miss World contestants explored the safari adventures South Africa's Eastern Cape has to offer. Joanna was among the group of contestants who went on a game drive through the Addo Elephant National Park before visiting the Nguni River Lodge.

The 2009 Miss World Contestants are in Port Elizabeth from 16 to 18 November 2009 where they will take part in the "Miss World Sport" leg of the competition. This competition is being held at the Nelson Mandela Bay 2010 Football Stadium and the Miss World Contestants will compete in various sports including a gladiator course, an adventure zone, and a relay race. The points earned at this event accumulate towards their final points for the fast track competition. They were welcomed to Port Elizabeth by a primary school steel pan band. Later in the evening, the contestants attended a gala dinner.

Vendors at the World Travel Market were treated to a visit by the contestants of the Miss World beauty pageant who made a special guest appearance to present a donation from the World Travel Awards to water aid charity Just a Drop. President and Founder of the World Travel Awards Graham Cooke presented the donation to Chairman of World Travel Market and Chairman and Founder of international water aid charity, Just a Drop, Fiona Jeffery - with the Miss World delegates as a glamorous backdrop. The collection for Just a Drop was made at the World Travel Awards 2009 Grand Final on Sunday, which was held at the Grosvenor House Hotel, a JW Marriott Hotel. The Miss World Charity Dinner was held on Monday night in aid of the Variety International Children's Fund. Guests were invited to The Grosvenor House Hotel in London for a fantastic evening of world class entertainment to see this year's Miss World contestants introduced on stage for the first time. Guests were amazed by the spectacular display of auction gifts brought in by this year's Miss World finalists as they arrived. Before dinner was served the Miss World contestants were presented on stage in their groups before joining guests at their tables for dinner. The Charity Auction was the highlight of the night with gifts from competing countries going under the hammer. This year's gifts were quite impressive, with a luxury holiday from The Bahamas and a surfboard from the USA proving popular with the guests. Other incredible prizes included a rare necklace from New Zealand and signed Usain Bolt running shoes from Jamaica. The 2009 Miss World contestants met with Miss World Organization Executive Chairman Julia Morley for the first time before rehearsing for tonight's big Charity Auction ball. During the day, Joanna learned that she is one of the contestants selected to travel to Abu Dhabi for a special fashion show! The selected group will join the reigning Miss World Ksenia Sukhinova for the fashion event in the United Arab Emirates before reuniting with their fellow contestants in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The Miss World contestants were taken on a sightseeing trip around London to see the city's famous sites. Highlights of the tour included a trip to Parliament Square where they saw the Houses of Parliament, Nelson's Column and South Africa House. They then drove past Westminster Abbey for more pictures before heading for Buckingham Palace. The girls then travelled up to St. Paul's Cathedral in the city, going past Piccadilly Circus and over Tower Bridge before heading back to their hotel for a special awards dinner.

Joanna departs for the Miss World competition! She left Toronto, Canada on a direct flight to London where this year's Miss World competition begins. She and her fellow contestants will spend a few days there before heading to Johannesburg, South Africa. The pre arrival Miss World buzz is heating up! A news item appears on the Miss World website (www.missworld.com) regarding the pageant's first official event - the upcoming Charity Auction ball on November 9th. Several contestants are singled out in the news item for their amazing auction gifts, and our Joanna Brown is one of them! The article reads: The Miss World Charity Dinner will bring all 120 finalists to London for a night of International fundraising and world class entertainment. During the event will be a unique auction. All 120 young ladies will donate an exclusive gift from their home country. Jamaica's Kerrie Baylis will be bringing some signed running shoes from fellow countryman Usain Bolt. The sprinter is a three time Olympic gold medalist and the fastest man of all time holding world records for both the 100m and 200m events. Another sporting gift comes from Trinidad and Tobago's Ashanna Arthur who will offer a signed cricket bat from the legendary Brian Lara. Joanna traveled to Freeport, Grand Bahama for the final time before heading off to the Miss World competition. While there, she visited The Beacon School where she presented a check to the school's principal Sheryl Wood. Joanna has been raising funds for the school through various means, including soliciting businesses for direct donations.

In keeping with tradition, Joanna was the fourth Miss Bahamas titleholder to visit Diamonds International's headquarters. Like her predecessors, she toured the facility and learned more about the diamonds for which she serves as spokesperson in The Bahamas.

Joanna's much anticipated photo shoot with Fadil Berisha took place in his New York City studio. Joanna was photographed in exquisite designers gowns, including the creations of Carlos Alberto, and the Crown of Light jewelry by Diamonds International. Her hair was styled by Hector Joaquin. The images from this shoot will serve as Joanna's official photos, and some of them will be used in Diamonds International ads in The Bahamas.

Joanna traveled to New York City for an exciting four day trip. While there, she got to see some of the Big Apple's famous attractions like Time Square, the Rockefeller Center, and Top of the Rock. Additionally, she toured the Diamonds International headquarters in keeping with the tradition of Miss Bahamas World queens. The highlight of Joanna's trip to New York was her photo shoot with world renowned fashion photographer Fadil Berisha.

Joanna was the special guest at the Bahamas International Film Festival's Fiesta Hispana event. She and hundreds of guests enjoyed an evening of Latina flavor at The Balmoral Club, including Flamenco Dancers, a Spanish guitarist, a Latin vocalist, and food from around the Latin world. Joanna was called on to draw the names of the lucky persons who won prizes during the BIFF fundraiser.

Joanna presented the awards to the competitors during the final night of the Mr. Caribbean Bahamas Competition held at the Independence Ballroom of the Sheraton Cable Beach Resort. Freddie Lightbourne, a law enforcement officer and father, captured the title of the fastest, fittest, and strongest Bahamian man for 2009/2010 by winning the Fitness Challenge and Physique Competition.

Joanna was interviewed for Paradise Magazine. She will be included in an article focusing on beauty pageants. Also appearing in the article will be Miss Universe Dayana Mendoza, and Miss USA Kristen Dalton. The magazine is placed in thousands of hotel rooms here in The Bahamas.

On the final day of their raffle ticket sales drive, Joanna assisted the Cancer Society of the Bahamas. She joined volunteers at the Mall at Marathon where she encouraged shoppers to purchase a ticket for a worthy cause. She and her fellow Miss Bahamas World contestants sold more than $500 worth of tickets for the Cancer Society raffle during the weeks leading up to the pageant.

Our new Miss Bahamas World Joanna Brown is crowned during a Grand Coronation Show held at the Rainforest Theatre, Cable Beach. Her court includes Miss Bahamas Tourism Queen Llatetra Laing; Miss Bahamas Intercontinental Dashanique Poitier; and Top Model of the Bahamas Kendra Wilkinson. Immediately after the coronation, the ladies were whisked off to a press conference, followed by a coronation reception.
