BEJEWELED – 2018 MISS BAHAMAS PAGEANT SEASON BEGINS
Nassau, Bahamas, April 27, 2018 – Under the theme “Bejeweled”, the 2018 Miss World Bahamas Pageant season officially kicks off with a charity reception at the Courtyard Marriott as reigning queen Geena Thompson and the 10 contestants vying for her crown raise money for her Hope for the Homeless Beauty with a Purpose project. The project – in partnership with Great Commission Ministries – aims to raise funds to construct an emergency shelter for women and children in crisis. The charity event will be the first opportunity for pageant fans to meet and greet the contestants up close and personal.
“Every precious stone is exposed to a long, arduous process before it becomes the brilliant jewel that we all admire. The same applies to our contestants. By the end of this pageant experience, no doubt they will each shine bright like a diamond as they come into their own as empowered women of purpose.”
- Michelle Malcolm, MBO President
Through this year’s theme, the Miss Bahamas Organization (MBO) is once again referencing its renowned developmental program through which contestants are encouraged to discover their purpose and to become agents of change in their communities. Each contestant is required to fulfill a Beauty with a Purpose project to raise awareness for the cause of her choice. During the pageant launch, funds will be raised via a raffle featuring gifts donated by the contestants themselves. The charity reception will be the first of several events to be held in the run up to the pageant finale on May 27 at which time a new Miss World Bahamas will be crowned.
